Gonzales Park Compton CA Memoral

Welcome to Cressey Park Legends

Cressey Park Legends is a non-profit organization dedicated to honoring the legacy of over 200 young men who rose through the ranks of the Connie Mack Baseball League in Compton, California—many of whom went on to become professional baseball players. Founded under the leadership of Bobby Watkins, a retired MLB player with the Houston Astros, our mission is to preserve and celebrate this remarkable chapter of Black achievement in American sports history.

The league, which began in the 1950s, was rooted in what was then known as Cressey Park—now Gonzales Park—located at:
1101 W Cressey St, Compton, CA 90220

A proposal to install a memorial at the park has been officially approved by the Mayor and Compton City Council, ensuring this powerful legacy is remembered for generations to come.
